Orlando Accident Kills Motorcyclist on Sunday
This Sunday in Orlando an accident between a motorcycle and a Ford Escape has left one individual dead and another individual potentially facing manslaughter charges. The incident, as has been reported by the Florida Highway Patrol, occurred in the afternoon along Econlockhatchee Trail. The statement given by members of the Florida Highway Patrol construct for us a partial picture, although as the investigation continues more facts will be supplied.
Currently, what is known is that the Ford Escape was driving northbound on Econlockhatchee Trail. The motorcyclist, on the other hand, was headed south. For reasons that are either unknown or have not been supplied, the driver of the Escape drifted from the northbound lane into the southbound late. Witnesses to the scene stated that the motorcyclist attempted to avoid a direct collision with the car by intentionally dropping his motorcycle onto the asphalt. Shortly after performing this move, the driver was thrown away from the motorcycle. The Florida Highway Patrol indicate that the motorcyclist was swiftly treated by the first responders and subsequently rushed to a hospital close by. Unfortunately, by the time he reached the facility he had succumbed to the massive injuries received from the accident. He was declared dead at the hospital. As is often the case in accidents that involve a motorcyclist and a car, the driver of the Ford Escape was not injured at all during the above events.
The Florida Highway Patrol are currently investigating the events that lead to this fatal accident, although they have not yet released any definite facts regarding the reason for the Ford Escape’s drifting into the wrong lane. It is not known whether any alcohol and/or drugs were involved, and it is also not known whether the Florida Highway Patrol have performed any tests on the driver of the escape to determine whether or not any suspicious substances were involved that may have led to this fatal incident.
Accidents between cars and motorcycles are a common occurrence in Florida, where our scenic roadways attract bikers from around the country. While helmets often save lives, it is not exaggeration to say that the most dangerous thing to a motorcyclist on the road are the drivers around them who may or may not be paying as much attention to their actions as is necessary to keep everyone out of harm’s way.
