Motorcyclist Killed During Crash with Pickup in Putnam County
According to authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol, a 57-year-old motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries yesterday evening after he was involved in a collision with a pickup truck on State Road 20 in Putnam County.
Preliminary incident reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that it was 8:31 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, when a 57-year-old man from Palm Coast was driving a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the eastbound direction of State Road 20 near County Road 20A in Putnam County. For reasons that are currently unknown, the motorcyclist crossed over the double-yellow lines separating the lanes of traffic as he approached County Road 20A and crashed into a 24-year-old man from Archer who was driving a 2018 Chevy Silverado in the westbound lane.
The impact from the motorcycle accident caused the 57-year-old biker to be ejected from his Harley-Davidson. He suffered severe injuries during the collision and died at the scene. Florida Highway Patrol officers stated that although he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, it was not compliant with the current Department of Transportation standards.
The 24-year-old driver of the pickup truck and his 15-year-old passenger from Bronson were unharmed. Both were wearing their seat belts when the deadly accident took place.
This case is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
