Motorcyclist Dies after Collision within DeBary
A crash within the city of DeBary that took place early in December resulted in the death of one motorcyclist, according to reports from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. The motorcycle accident that caused this death is believed to have happened close to 7:30 on the evening of Saturday, December 1st, while numerous vehicles and their drivers were traveling to and from homes, restaurants, and weekend employment. The motorcyclist in question was driving their bike along Dirksen Drive, close to the intersection of this road and Interstate 4, when a Kia sedan attempted to turn across traffic in order to access the interstate.
At this particular junction of Dirksen Drive, a light controls the east and westbound traffic as well as the access to Interstate 4. When the motorcyclist reached this intersection, the signal was displaying a green light for those traveling both east and west down Dirksen, while the turn signal for those attempting to merge onto I-4 flashed yellow. It is believed that the driver of the Kia did not see the motorcyclist and attempted to turn across the western traffic lane and onto the interstates on-ramp.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 25-year-old Apopka resident, was not able to avoid the Kia once the car entered its path, and collided with the car. A second motorcyclist, being driven by a 26-year-old Merritt Island resident managed to just avoid a direct collision with the car, but in their evasive maneuvering they still crashed.
Neither of the motorcyclists were wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, and it is believed that this factor intensified the injuries that were sustained in the incident. As a result of the crash, the 25-year-old sustained injuries that quickly proved to be fatal, and despite the efforts by the responding paramedics and EMTs they were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. The second motorcyclist also suffered from injuries, but the report indicated that these were fairly minor in comparison.
The 80-year-old driver of the, an Orlando resident, was not injured in the incident. The report also indicated that there was nothing to suggest intoxication or impairment on this driver’s part.
