Melbourne Crash Kills Two, Critically Injures Child

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on May 7, 2020

A collision between a motorcycle and a van inside of the City of Melbourne resulted in numerous fatalities as well as critical injuries on the evening of Monday, May 4th. The reports from the Melbourne Police Department indicated that the incident began sometime around 7:15 in the evening, while an individual on a motorcycle was traveling down the eastern lanes of the 4600 block of Eau Gallie Boulevard. The motorcyclist had just departed from I-95 using the ramp when they entered Eau Gallie Boulevard’s eastern lanes.

At the same time, a van was being driven down Eau Gallie Boulevard as well. Within the van were numerous individuals, although the precise number was not included within the preliminary reports on the incident.

The reports suggest that it was as the motorcycle was merging off of the ramp for I-95 and onto Eau Gallie Boulevard that the driver of the van suddenly turned in front of the motorcycle. It is not currently clear which of the drivers had the right of way at this particular time, and the reports did not make clear whether or not the area features anything such as traffic lights, stop signs, or anything else to direct the traffic through the intersection.

What we do know is that the force of the collision was devastating.

When the paramedics and EMTs reached the scene, there was little that they found they could do for several of the individuals involved. Two people were declared dead at the scene of the crash. We do not currently know if these individuals were located within the van or if they were both aboard the motorcycle. In addition to the two fatalities, a young child was involved in the incident. Again, it is not clear if this child was inside of the van or riding on the motorcycle. We do know that the extent of their injuries was believed to have been severe and they were transported from the scene to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The current state of the child is not known.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing and the police are currently asking anyone who might have information regarding the incident to contact them.
