Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested in Connection With Serious Motorcycle Accident
Jacksonville Police have charged a 33-year-old Jacksonville woman with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injuries after a collision that left a 28-year-old mother of three and college student in critical condition. Police say the driver pulled her car out in front of the victim’s motorcycle in the 9900 block of Lem Turner Road, near Trout River Boulevard just before noon recently. The motorcycle accident victim was returning home after leaving a class at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Accident investigators say the driver turned off Bayview Avenue onto Lem Turner Road and pulled directly into the path of the victim. The victim had no time to take evasive action and collided with the side of the driver’s car. Witnesses say the driver then fled the scene without stopping or providing any assistance. Police were able to track down the driver and her vehicle after receiving vehicle and license plate information from witnesses. Police officers found the car in the parking lot of 5517 Playa Way, where the building manager told them that the car’s owner was in a nearby apartment, and the police arrested her. The victim is in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.
This Florida motorcycle accident is sadly typical in that the driver pulled directly into the path of the motorcyclist, giving her no time to react or avoid a collision. Also sadly typical are the horrific injuries the hit-and-run driver’s victim has suffered. While details about the victim’s injuries have not been released, it is likely that she suffered terrible life-changing injuries such as these:
• Skull fracture
• Facial lacerations
• Back injuries
• Compound fractures
• Massive internal injuries
• Severe concussion
• Other injuries that negatively affect her quality of life
It’s bad enough that this negligent driver caused an accident by pulling right in front of the rider, but it’s especially egregious that she fled from the scene to avoid taking responsibility.
