Fatal Crash Involving Motorcycle on Colonial Drive in Orange County
A motorcycle accident that took place towards the end of March has resulted in an ongoing investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Early reports on the incident suggest that it took place on Thursday, March 26th, although little information beyond that is currently available. What we know at the time of this writing comes from details contained in Florida Highway Patrol statements, details that remain somewhat sketchy as the investigation remains under investigation.
It was close to 5:00 in the evening when a motorcycle was traveling down Colonial Drive within Orange County. Exactly how many vehicles were involved in the crash remains uncertain, but we do know that the number is at least two. The motorcyclist was close to the intersection of Colonial Drive and Sherman Street when the incident took place. The other vehicle that is confirmed to have been involved in the accident is a truck. A fairly vague term, the reports did not indicate just what sort of truck was involved. It is possible that it was a pickup truck, but it is also possible that a larger vehicle, such as a dump truck or semi-truck was involved.
A major piece of the investigation will be to discover just which of the drivers involved bears the most responsibility for the accident in question. While we know that at least two vehicles were involved, this by no means makes it clear which of these vehicles played the biggest role in the crash. Some of the most common reasons for collisions such as this include:
- Distracted driving due to cell phones, passengers, or other elements.
- Medical emergencies that render a drive unable to properly navigate their vehicle.
- Intoxicated or drunk driving.
- Excessive speed.
Currently, we do not know which of these factors, if any, plays the largest role in the crash. We do know that as a result of the accident, the motorcyclist suffered from severe injuries. Emergency medical professionals rushed to the area to treat the biker, but their efforts were not enough to triumph over the severe damage that the individual suffered as a result of the violent crash. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene.
It is not known if anyone else involved suffered injuries. It is not known if any charges are pending.
