Fatal Crash Between SUV and Motorcycle in Seminole County
On Thursday, May 21st, an accident occurred in Seminole County that resulted in the death of a single individual. The accident happened in the mid-morning and involved two vehicles: an SUV and a motorcycle. As is usually the case in collisions that occur between a motorcycle and a larger vehicle, the motorcyclist was the one to suffer the most from the impact.
The reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol provide us with the bulk of the information we currently possess regarding the collision. According to these reports, the incident began close to 10:30 in the morning when a Kia Sorrento pulled up to the intersection of Celery Avenue and Lake Mary Boulevard. Inside of the Kia was a 42-year-old driver and two children. The age of the children was not provided in the initial report. The intersection features a stop sign, and the Kia stopped as a result of this sign. It is not known if both Celery Avenue and Lake Mary Boulevard have stop signs or if it is only Celery Avenue where the signs are placed.
After stopping for an unknown period of time, the driver of the Kia attempted to make a left turn off of the eastern lanes of Celery Avenue onto Lake Mary Boulevard. It was at this same moment that a 49-year-old motorcyclist was traveling down Lake Mary Boulevard. The reports indicated that the SUV traveled directly into the path of the motorcycle, and the two vehicles crashed into one another as a result.
It is believed that the motorcycle crashed into the left side of the Kia with an extraordinary amount of force, enough so that the SUV rolled over. The motorcyclist was also thrown from their vehicle in this crash.
Emergency response crews rushed to the area following the incident. Paramedics and EMTs offered emergency medical attention to the driver of the SUV as well as the motorcyclist, both of whom were badly injured as a result of the crash. Despite their efforts, the motorcyclist was unable to recover and was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The 42-year-old driver of the SUV was trapped within her car when the emergency crews arrived, and when she was freed she was rushed to a nearby hospital and treated for serious injuries.
Neither of the children within the SUV were injured.
The accident remains under investigation.
