DeBary Biker Killed During Head-On Collision Near Enterprise Road
Although traffic homicide investigators with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office have almost reached a conclusion in this tragic case, officers are still ironing out a few key details surrounding the death of a 24-year-old man who was killed during a motorcycle accident last Friday afternoon near Enterprise Road in DeBary.
According to initial reports from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, it was close to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022, when 24-year-old DeBary resident Nicolas Gonzalez was driving his 2005 Honda motorcycle in the northbound direction of Enterprise Road. At this same time, 79-year-old William McCabe and his 72-year-old passenger Kathy McCabe, both from Deltona, were traveling in an SUV in the southern direction of the same street. As both vehicles approached the intersection of Enterprise Road and Pond Court, the driver of the SUV tried to make a left turn and pulled out directly in front of the young motorcyclist. He was unable to avoid an accident with the SUV and crashed head-on with the vehicle.
After the first crash occurred, Nicolas Gonzalez was ejected from his motorcycle and propelled onto the hood of another car that was stopped at the intersection’s traffic light. He finally came to a rest in a patch of grass along the shoulder of the road.
Multiple Volusia County emergency response teams arrived at the scene of the auto accident within a matter of minutes and were able to stabilize the severely injured 24-year-old motorcyclist long enough to be transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford. He sadly died from his injuries shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
The two Deltona residents who were in the sport utility vehicle at the time of the accident sustained minor injuries during the collision and were treated by paramedics at the crash site.
The individual who was behind the wheel of the third vehicle was unharmed during the incident.
