Collision in Titusville Kills Motorcyclist
This past Friday a man in Titusville was killed in an accident between a motorcycle and a pickup truck. According to the report issued by Titusville Police Department Public Affairs Coordinator/Public Information Officer spokesperson, Amy Matthews, the accident occurred where Coquina Avenue and Washington Avenue (also known as U.S. 1) intersect. The exact series of events seems to place the pickup truck, a Toyota Tundra, as traveling northbound on Washington Avenue when it turned to go west on Coquina Avenue. This was around 9:45 in the evening. The motorcycle, piloted by the 28-year-old Justin Wayne Smith, was traveling southward along Washington Avenue at this same time.
For reasons that are currently unclear, as the truck was turning across the southbound lanes, the driver, who has not been named, did not see the motorcyclist. Justin Wayne Smith, for his part, either did not see the pickup crossing his path or was traveling too fast for it to make a difference either way. The two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection.
When the emergency response teams responded to the call they were unable to do anything to save Justin Wayne Smith. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Tundra, on the other hand, is believed to have been uninjured as a result of the accident, and other than Smith there are no injuries, serious or otherwise, that have been reported.
The investigation is still very much undergoing as the Titusville Police Department work to discover what exactly happened that made this deadly encounter possible. No charges have yet been filed against the driver of the Toyota Tundra, and it is not known whether or not the investigating authorities believe this individual to be solely responsible or not. Regardless, this is an instance where an individual died because of preventable circumstances. Just who should shoulder the most blame for the incident is not yet known, something that will certainly make the coming days even more difficult for Smith’s family and loved ones.
Accidents such as this happen every day throughout the country. Sometimes they result in serious injuries, and in other circumstances they lead to death. Either way, lives are irrevocably altered.
