Cocoa Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After Crash Along U.S. 1

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 21, 2021

A motorcycle crash within Cocoa during the last weeks of March resulted in two badly damaged vehicles and a person hospitalized in critical condition. Following the collision, emergency response crews rushed to the scene. Members of the Cocoa Police Department issued a report on the incident following their examination of the crash site and the transportation of the critically injured individual to an emergency medical center.

What we know at this time is that it was close to noon on Wednesday, March 24th, when a motorcyclist was headed down U.S. 1, nearing the intersection between this highway and Peachtree Street. At the same time, another vehicle was nearing this same intersection. While the details of which of the two vehicles, the car or the motorcycle, struck the other first, or whether perhaps both motorists were culpable in the incident, remain subject to the conclusions of the Cocoa Police Department’s investigation, we know that the motorcyclist and the large vehicle struck one another with enough force to cause the cyclist to be thrown from their seat and into the roadway.

Witnesses to the scene quickly called emergency support vehicles to the area, and soon members of the Cocoa Police Department, EMTs, and paramedics were all in the area, treating the badly injured biker as well as conducting a thorough preliminary investigation of the crash site.

The motorcyclist, who was not named in the preliminary report, was assessed as being in critical condition and rushed from the scene of the incident to a nearby hospital. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash, and remained at the accident site throughout the investigation. Ultimately, both motorists cooperated with the police investigation as much as was possible given their state following the crash.

While the collision site was tended to, other people traveling through the area were redirected from the eastern lanes of Peachtree Street to the western lanes. The preliminary investigation lasted for several hours, meaning that a major stretch of the roadways involved were closed from close to noon until 5:30 in the evening.

The crash remains under investigation.
