75th Annual Daytona Beach Bike Week Events
The Daytona Beach Bike Week kicked off this past Friday, March 4th, starting a ten-day long motorcycle extravaganza at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach. Doors opened at 9 a.m. for motorcycle enthusiasts who couldn’t wait to get a free test drive on all the new 2016 Harley Davidson models, plus check out all of the new clothing and gear for the 2016 riding season. Visitors could also check out other vendors and manufacturers showcases for the latest information and upcoming events.
Daytona Beach Bike Week was also a chance for visitors to check out other happenings all over the city of Daytona Beach. Street festivals and live entertainment were in great supply, with several concerts at Jesters during the week including Buckcherry on March 4th, Credence Clearwater Revisited on March 10th and the Charlie Daniel’s Band on March 12th. Riders could also join in the week’s festivities at many other area Bike shows and even get their ride washed at waxed at the Black Sheep in Ormond Beach!
For all of the diehard motorcycle fans, Bike Week was a chance to celebrate everything they love about motorcycles. Many visitors took the opportunity to cruise along Main Street to visit local restaurants and vendors, and to just enjoy the weather! The 7th Annual Ricky Carmichael Amateur Dirt Bike Supercross was held on Monday, March 7th at the Daytona Speedway. And, the annual MDA Women’s Bike ride was also held Tuesday morning, March 8th and had over 50 women in attendance for the day-long event. And to cap off the week, huge numbers of bikers turned out to attend the Daytona 200, held later in the week on March 12th, 2016. Michael Barnes, a 47-year-old veteran racer came out of retirement to claim the trophy on a warm Florida day, capping an exciting race for the fans.
Bike Week was a great success for visitors and businesses alike in the Daytona Beach area. Festivals such as these are a terrific way for motorcycle enthusiasts to get out and show their support for the activities they enjoy and to meet others that share the same passion.
