RSSTwo Die After Fleeing from Orlando Traffic Stop
A pair of individuals died in a car accident on Tuesday, February 5th, after crashing into a large pole while trying to avoid police making a traffic stop. Reports from the Orlando Police Department stated that the incident took place close to 2:30 in the morning on Tuesday, after an officer with the Orlando Police Department activated the lights on their cruiser in order to make a traffic stop close to Church Street and John Young Parkway. The officer who attempted to make the stop was reportedly rebuffed by the individuals inside of the car, and after an unknown period of time the officer abandoned their attempts to pull the car over.
It is not clear if the two vehicles were at this point traveling at excessive rates of speed or if something else caused the OPD officer to abandon their pursuit, but it does seem clear that the individuals inside of the car managed to elude the police and were practically free when, for reasons that are not clear but likely had to do with speed, the driver of the fleeing car lost control of the vehicle and collided with a power pole located along Carter Street.
Police officers who were nearby indicated that they heard a massive explosion and then the streets around them went pitch black. When the officers arrived, they found that the accident had taken out the power line, depriving close to 100 people of power to their homes. The crash also resulted in both of the people inside of the car suffering fatal injuries. It is not clear if either of them were still alive by the time the emergency response teams reached the scene, but we do know that both of them were declared dead shortly after the collision took place.
At the time of this writing, the names of both of the deceased individuals have been withheld from the public, although it is not clear if they were identified after the crash.
The reasons behind the OPD officer first trying to make the traffic stop are not known, and it is also not clear if the OPD has any information on why the two individuals inside of the vehicle might have wanted to flee a traffic stop with such haste.
