Man Dies after Car Crashes into Orange County Retention Pond

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 28, 2018

An investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol is currently underway to uncover just what happened to cause the death of a man this past Friday after he drove his car into a retention pond inside of Orange County. Preliminary reports from the Florida Highway Patrol suggest that the individual in question was driving their car down the western lanes of Isle of Wright Drive when something caused the driver to depart from the road and collide with a bench before careening into a retention pond located near to the area.

From the early reports, it is not possible to ascertain just what happened to cause this incident. It is also not clear who found the car in the pond or at what time the authorities believe the crash occurred. It is possible that police were notified by a witness to the event, but it is equally possible that they first discovered the incident after an officer on patrol passed by the area and saw the car mostly under the water.

After discovering the vehicle, numerous emergency response teams reached the location to try and save anyone who might still be within the vehicle. Two swimmers and one diver entered the water and searched the surrounding area for anyone who might have been inside of the car at the time of the crash. At the time of this writing, it is believed that the only person inside of the vehicle when it sank into the pond was an adult male who was the driver of the car.

The rescue personnel were able to reach and retrieve the driver while the individual was still alive, and they subsequently transported the man to Florida Hospital Kissimmee for advanced medical treatment. Unfortunately, the extent of the individuals injuries was beyond the scope of the medical center. The man was pronounced dead sometime after arriving after the hospital.

Police continue to investigate the crash at this time, and any future updates will likely emerge in the form of official news bulletins or police reports issued to local and state news agencies.

No charges are currently connected with this fatal incident.
