Trial May Begin in Late July for Orange County Hit and Run Driver
The suspect in an April hit-and-run crash that fatally wounded a 4-year-old Winter Park girl could be facing trial as early as the end of July according to Orange County officials. According to his attorney, the accused does not wish to waive his right to a speedy trial. Trial is currently set to begin on July 28.
This is the second of two hit-and-run incidents the suspect is accused of committing in a five month period. The suspect is also accused of several drug related charges in connection with the crash including drug trafficking, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. If convicted on fleeing the scene of a fatality, he faces life in prison in addition to the sentences on the other various charges.
The parents of the 4-year-old victims and many other families were severely impacted by this tragic accident. Hundreds of accidents occur every day in the United States and innocent people are hurt or killed due to the negligent actions of others. They were just leading their normal lives, heading to work or school, or in this case playing at a local daycare. The sudden and shocking impact of these tragedies can haunt victims for a lifetime. The persons responsible for these tragedies need to be brought to justice.
No amount of money can replace a life, or even comfort those who are grieving. But it can bring a sense of closure for families who have been struggling with job loss or even the death of a family member.
