Bicyclist Killed by Semi Truck in Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 3, 2016

Early on Wednesday morning, a male bicyclist was riding his bike near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Taft Vineland Road when he was hit by a semi truck. The truck, which was being driven by an as-of-yet unnamed 37-year-old man from Orlando, was in the process of pulling out of a gas station located near the intersection when the cyclist approached. Apparently, he either did not see the cyclist or was unable to stop in time because the truck subsequently ran the cyclist over.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, emergency crews arrived and took the injured cyclist to the hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, the man was pronounced dead. The driver of the semi sustained no injuries.

The accident, which occurred around 5:45am, was caused by unknown circumstances. In order to complete a full investigation, Florida State Troopers shut down the north side of Orange Blossom Trail. The road will remain closed until a more detailed picture of what actually occurred emerges.

Due to the continuing uncertainty regarding the precise causes of the incident, no charges have as of yet been brought forward or leveled on the driver of the semi truck. It is also unknown whether or not the deceased has any family or next of kin that are still in the process of being notified. Until all of this information is gathered, there will likely be few updates to the story. However, as the investigation into the accident and the examination of the site continues, more clues will emerge to give the Florida Highway Patrol and all other investigating parties a fuller picture into what happened, how, and whether or not any one individual holds the majority of the blame.

In cases such as this, it is a delicate matter to be certain as to the facts. When a life has been lost, flippancy regarding the circumstances leading to that loss can easily result in missed evidence and mistakes made in crucial areas. This is often why police investigations into matters regarding deaths can often take longer than might otherwise be expected.
