Crash on U.S. Highway 1 Kills Oak Hill Motorcyclist and Passenger

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on March 18, 2016

An accident in Oak Hill, FL on Monday, February 22nd, 2016 led to the death of a motorcyclist. The accident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. that night, occurred near the parking lot of the Oak Hill Flea Market. The area was closed for investigation for some time.

According to authorities from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Michael Wilson was attempting to exit the parking lot at Oak Hill Flea Market when his Ford F-150 truck pulled out in front of a motorcyclist. The bike collided with the driver’s side of Wilson’s truck, causing what would turn out to be fatal damage to both of its riders.

The driver of the motorcycle has not yet been named, but its passenger has been identified as 57-year-old Rosemary Mayo. As a result of the collision, the driver was pronounced dead on the scene and Mayo was taken to an area hospital, where she eventually passed away.

While a Florida Highway Patrol investigation is pending, no further information has been as to whether authorities suspect factors such as distracted or impaired driving. So far, it is unclear whether Wilson holds all responsibility for the accident, or whether charges have been or will be brought against him.

When you or a loved one are involved in a serious motorcycle accident, you may find yourself dealing with growing medical bills on top of significant emotional and financial stress. If you believe someone else is at fault in causing the crash, you may be entitled to appropriate compensation. In fact, according to Florida law, you have the legal right to compensation for all of your injuries and losses, including (but not limited to): medical bills, loss of wages and, in some cases, emotional distress.
