Seminole Pedestrian Struck and Killed

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on March 23, 2019

Early reports from deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office offered some information regarding the fatal pedestrian accident that happened early on the morning of Sunday, March 17th, and involved a 41-year-old man. According to these reports, the pedestrian, a Seminole resident, was walking across Starkey Road when the incident took place.

It was close to 1:30 in the morning when this all took place, and the pedestrian was at a part of the road that stands just before 7589 Starkey Road within the town of Seminole. It is not clear if the pedestrian was in their right mind at the time of the incident, although the reports do indicate that it is believed none of the individuals involved were inebriated in any way. Regardless, the area where they chose to cross does not feature a crosswalk or any sort of pedestrian safety measures. The area is also not located at an intersection, although it does lie just to the north of the intersection of Starkey Road and Park Boulevard.

The man, who was named in the initial reports, was attempting to make his way from the eastern side of Starkey Road to the western side when a 2018 Mazda 3 came down the roadway. It is not clear if the driver of the Mazda 3 had any time to see and respond to the presence of the 41-year-old man in the road. We do know that they were not able to avoid the pedestrian, and that the car subsequently struck the pedestrian and inflicted on them severe injuries.

The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene of the incident. It is not known if they placed the initial 9-1-1 call, but emergency services were notified about the accident and were soon on their way to the scene in order to offer what help they could to the badly injured individual. Unfortunately, due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the man, there was nothing that could be done and he was declared dead at the scene of the accident. At the time of this writing, deputies have ruled out both speed and alcohol as contributing factors to the fatal incident.
