26-Year-Old Traumatically Injured in Winter Garden Work-Related Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 4, 2018

A debilitating construction accident happened in Orange county late in November at a work site located in the Orange County town of Winter Garden. According to a report from the Orange County Fire Rescue, the incident happened close to 4:00 in the afternoon on November 28th, in an area that was described as being residential.

The precise nature of the work being done was not immediately clear, but it appears as though at least one person was working in the area when the incident took place. We are currently in the dark regarding whether or not the work was being performed at an official, county-sponsored construction zone or if it was a private project being completed by the workers.

We do know that the piece of machinery being operated at the time of the incident is known as a road surface mill machine. These extremely powerful machines are used to chew up large portions of road surface and spit them via a conveyor belt into the box bed of a dump truck. In order to do this, the road miller employs numerous high-powered pulverizing arms to beat the road into a more consumable pulp.

The person impacted by the accident is a 26-year-old. No other information about this person was given in the initial report and we do not know if they are a resident of Orange County or if they hail from elsewhere within the state. It is believed that at the time of the incident they were operating the road milling machine and that somehow the employee’s right foot slipped underneath the machine. It is also possible that the machine simply rolled over the person’s foot with a tire, although the description of the injury seems to indicate a more severe sort of injury.

Emergency response crews reached the scene shortly after the incident took place, and the person who suffered the injury was then airlifted from the area to Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was admitted as a trauma alert, indicating that the accident was of a highly serious nature.

At the time of this writing, the condition of the 26-year-old is not known.
