Two Injured when Car Slams into Restaurant

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 10, 2010

The Orlando Sentinel reports a car hit the exterior of the Golden Corral restaurant in Altamonte Springs on State Road 434 south of State Road 436 with sufficient force to knock down one of the restaurant’s walls, injuring a husband and wife having lunch.

Accident investigators said that the Chevrolet SSR’s driver was attempting to park in a parking space at the side of the restaurant and failed to stop at the curb, causing the car to accelerate out of control. The car then drove through a hedge, struck the restaurant’s wall and continued into the seating area. Officials say that it took emergency response personnel 20 minutes to free the driver of the Chevrolet after the accident. At the time of the report, the 50-year-old driver was listed in stable condition at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The falling wall pushed one 78-year-old victim against a table and onto the floor. Falling debris hit her 82-year-old husband. When the vehicle came to a stop, it was almost all the way into the building causing damage so severe that an evacuation of the building was necessary due to severe structural problems. Emergency personnel transported the two victims, both from Sanford, to an area hospital in unknown condition.
