One Dead after Car Collides with Semi in Lake County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 4, 2018

A Lake County crash that happened on Tuesday, August 21st, continues to remain under investigation as detectives and officers working with the Florida Highway Patrol attempt to uncover just what happened to cause two cars and a tractor-trailer to collide. The damage that resulted from the trucking accident included at least one fatality.

While much of the incident remains unclear, we do know that it was close to 7:30 in the morning when the three vehicles were traveling down State Road 33 and/or County Road 474. The area of the roadway where these cars were traveling runs through Clermont, inside of Lake County, although the reports did not indicate just how close to any city the crash took place.

One of the people driving a car was a 51-year-old Orlando resident. The report indicated that this person was either attempting to make a turn off of the roadway or had lost control of the vehicle for reasons that are not included in the initial report. Due to this driver’s turning the wheel, their car exited their travel lane and entered the travel lane being used by the large tractor trailer. The report did not state whether or not the collision between the two vehicles was head-on, but we do know that the force of this crash caused the driver of the car to suffer severe injuries.

Pictures from the incident show a red car and a white car sitting some ways off to the side of the road. The front driver’s side of the white car appears to have some damage, and the red car (presumably the one being driven by the 51-year-old) is almost totally destroyed. In another picture, the tractor trailer can be seen jackknifed into a line of trees, the cab resting only on the wheels of the passenger side.

Emergency services rushed to the area after receiving reports of the accident, but there was nothing that they could do for the injured Orlando resident and they were declared dead at the scene. The report did not indicate if any of the other people involved in the crash were injured. It also failed to indicate just how the third vehicle became involved in the crash.
