Florida Man Falls Off Cruise Ship

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 21, 2015

Florida has a large cruise industry that employs thousands of people. Last year, 17.6 million people sailed from ports in North American, many of them leaving from locations in Florida. Most of the ships travel to Mexico or ports of call in the Caribbean. These ships give people a unique experience to see some of the most beautiful tropical places in the world, and the opportunity to relax and unwind under the supervision of professional sailors.

A man was rescued January 3rd after he fell overboard and was rescued by another ship. The man had left Port Everglades, Florida, on January 3rd on the Oasis of the Seas, which was on 7-day cruise through Haiti, Jamaica and Mexico. A young girl and her dad were on the deck of another cruise ship, the Disney Magic, at around 6:30 in the morning and began to hear screaming from the man in the water. They alerted crewmembers about the potential of a man being in the ocean.

The crewmembers began yelling “Mr. Mob,” which meant man overboard. They lowered a lifeboat into the water and attempted to rescue the man, who has not been identified. It was difficult to spot the man in the water, as the seas were choppy and he would disappear at times. After the rescue, the man was brought back onto the cruise ship and taken to the infirmary. Passengers on the Disney Magic applauded the rescue.

The entire incident was recorded on camera by a passenger on the Disney Magic. The incident made international news after the recording was released to the media. The man who recorded the video talked about the surreal experience of seeing a passenger from another ship floating in the ocean and the man having to be rescued by members of the crew of that boat that he was traveling on.
