Orlando Infantino Sling Recall Injury Lawyer Concerned about Latest Sling Recall

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 7, 2010

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is alerting parents about possible suffocation risks associated with using two models of infant slings manufactured by Infantino LLC, of San Diego, CA. The “SlingRider” and “Wendy Bellissimo” models of Infantino infant slings have been recalled in the U.S. and Canada. Parents of children younger than four months of age are cautioned to discontinue using these models of infant slings due to a risk of suffocation and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement.

The Infantino sling recall affects one million slings sold in the U.S. and 15,000 sold in Canada. The infant slings have been cited in three suffocation deaths that occurred in 2009. One incident involved a seven-week-old infant in Philadelphia, PA. Another claimed the life of a six-day-old infant in Salem, OR. In addition, a three-month-old infant suffocated while in an Infantino sling in Cincinnati, OH.

The recalled infant slings were sold in North America from January 2003 through March 2010 at a variety of retailers including Wal-Mart, BJ’s Wholesale, Target and other online and brick-and-mortar retailers. One can identify a recalled infant sling by the brand name “Infantino” on the plastic slider on the sling’s strap and the words “Infantino” and “SlingRider” as well as the item number on the instruction label inside the sling. The “Wendy Bellissimo” models were sold only through Babies “R” Us outlets and feature a label sewn on the inside of the sling strap that says “Wendy Bellissimo Media, Inc.” and lists item numbers 3937500H7 and 3937501H7 in addition to other information.

Consumers wishing to exchange recalled slings for another product are encouraged to contact Infantino toll-free at (866) 860-1361 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit www.infantino.com. They are cautioned not to try to fix infant slings. Instead, they should exchange them using the contact information listed here. The CPSC issued the warning about these slings on March 12, 2010 and is seeking incident or injury reports directly related to this recall or that involve a different hazard with these recalled products.

This is not the first time one of these infant slings has been recalled. On March 22, 2007, the Infantino Sling Rider models were recalled due to a fall hazard that could occur when the plastic slider on the strap broke, causing at least ten infants to fall out of the sling. If a loved one has been injured or lost due to an incident with one of these Infantino models, Orlando Infantino Sling recall injury lawyer James O. Cunningham may be able to help you receive compensation to help with medical and other costs you may have incurred.
