Ormond Beach Tree Trimmer Dead After Fall from Palm Tree
On Friday, July 22nd, around 2:15 in the afternoon, Thurman Hull, a 57-year-old who was employed by the Darryl Hamilton Tree Service, was trimming a tree at 1930 West Granada Boulevard when he fell from the ladder. The tree, which is described in the report from the Ormond Beach Police as being a big palm tree, was located at the back of a shopping plaza.
Witnesses who were present during the incident state that Hull had experienced some sort of trouble with his safety harness after he had climbed the ladder and began trimming the tree. Presumably in an attempt to fix the problem, Hull disconnected the safety harness from the ladder, which caused the ladder to twist violently, dislodging Hull and causing him to fall to the ground.
The report states that the Ormond Beach Police and Fire Departments both rushed to the scene following the accident. The name of the individual who made the call has not been released, and when the police and fire rescue arrived they found the unresponsive Hull at the base of the ladder. Despite attempts to revive him, the emergency response crews were forced to pronounce Hull dead at the scene.
Despite the presence of several witnesses, the investigation regarding Hull’s death is still ongoing, and the Criminal Investigation Unit will be continuing the investigation in an attempt to deduce the precise reasons that the 57-year-old tree trimmer fell from the ladder and lost his life.
It is currently unknown whether or not Hull leaves behind any family, but it is certain that his untimely death will be felt deeply by various loved ones from his life. This death, like so many others that occur on a daily basis, was entirely preventable. It is possible that the issue Hull was attempting to deal with at the top of the ladder was due to a defect in the equipment, and it is possible that the crew tending to the palm was not as well-equipped as they should have been. It is also unknown whether or not Hull was working alone or with other employees of the Darryl Hamilton Tree Service.
