Disney Cruise Line Coronavirus Lawsuits
Among the many cruise ship companies suffering from the outbreak of Coronavirus are those that traditionally sail under the flag of Disney. Unfortunately, as we have seen with numerous other corporations that operate cruise lines, Disney chose to ignore warnings from around the world and instead attempt to operate as though there weren’t a deadly pandemic sweeping across the globe.
Rather than cancel trips en masse, Disney chose to handle the evolving situation by offering discounted fares, flexible cancelation options, and credits towards future cruises. While this seems like a savvy business move, what it means for human lives is far more bleak. The decision made by the heads of Disney made it clear that the people coming aboard their vessels both as guests and as employees mattered far less than the profits the company hoped to continue to gather during a time of international disaster.
The irresponsible actions by companies such as the Disney Cruise Line meant that thousands of people, many of them elderly or with already compromised immune systems, were exposed to the novel coronavirus while aboard cruise ships. Because these ships sailed from port to port, they allowed potential spread of the virus not only within the ships themselves, but also to people in numerous other countries.
By the time cruise lines such as Disney accepted the fact that they must cancel departures, the damage had already been done.
Most hard hit among the Disney cruise ships was the Disney Wonder. On the 19th of March, this ship reached San Diego and disembarked almost 2,000 passengers. At the time, Disney did not indicate that any of these individuals had tested positive for the virus. Even more concerning are reports from various individuals who were aboard the ship that no health screening of passengers took place when they left the ship.
On the 5th of April, it was reported via anonymous sources aboard the ship that almost 40 of the remaining crew had tested positive for COVID-19. In their own statement on the subject, Disney told news agencies that there were currently no known cases aboard the ship’s crew. The discrepancy between these two accounts has yet to be resolved.
With their health potentially compromised or destroyed by the negligence of Disney, what can individuals who have suffered do? Rest assured, you do not need to be alone with this question. Cunningham, P.A. we are committed towards assisting you in achieving substantial reparations for any injuries and medical expenses you might have sustained aboard one of the many Disney cruise ships.
