Winter Park Home Destroyed in Fire
Early in the morning in Winter Park this past Thursday emergency services throughout Orange County responded to a 9-1-1 call that indicated a home was on fire. Sirens wailing, engines with the Orange County Fire Rescue team rushed towards 801 Mare Bello Drive, where the call came from and where the firefighters could see the orange flames lighting up the sky. When they arrived, the fire had already begun eating its way through the walls of the home. Windows were blown out and footage from a helicopter with News 6 captured the flames chewing through the home’s roof.
According to the official report, the call to the Orange County Fire Rescue came after one of the residents of the home woke up around 6:00 in the morning. In the report, the person who first called 9-1-1 claimed to have been awoken by a loud popping sound. Climbing from their bed, this individual went to investigate when they found the source of the sound: a large fire consuming the kitchen.
This individual placed a call to the Orange County Fire Rescue and then proceeded to wake up all the additional people inside of the house. All told, five people were inside of the structure when the fire broke out. All five either escaped from the home or were pulled out by the fire rescue teams, however the ferocity of the flames mingled with the length of time the fire had been allowed to burn before anyone noticed meant that a few of the individuals inside the home suffered from injuries. The Orange County Fire Rescue reported that three out of the five people inside the home were transported from the scene of the incident to Winter Park Memorial Hospital. One of these three suffered from both burns and smoke inhalation. All three are expected to recover.
The Florida Fire Marshal and other law enforcement agencies are currently working together to try and unravel the causes of this fire that destroyed a home and sent numerous people to the hospital. The report did not indicate whether the investigating authorities currently hold any predominant theories as to the reason behind the fire.
