Car Crashes into Orlando Rehab Center
A recent Orlando car crash left a 64 year old woman injured. According to police reports, the injury happened when a 35 year old male crashed his car into a health rehab center located on Merritt Island. Allegedly the driver was driving on Lean Street when he passed out, sending his car through two fences and crashing into the room where the woman was sleeping.
Both the driver and the patient were injured and taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Furthermore, the rehab building – which houses 120 people – suffered extensive damage. Seven residents had to be relocated while the building is being repaired.
Although the investigation continues, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) say they suspect that drugs were involved. A blood sample was taken and charges are pending the results of the test.
If drugs were in fact a contributing factor, then in all likelihood the driver will be facing several lawsuits. First, the injured woman has the right to seek compensation for any costs relating to her injuries – including for her hospital stay, medication and future treatment. Furthermore, the rehab center itself will be able to seek damages, not only for the damage done to the building itself, but for any loss in income it will experience as a result of having seven patients relocated during the rebuilding period. There is also the possibility that the other patients could suit if their recovery is in any way negatively impacted by the relocation.
