Honda recently announced the recall of 700,000 of its Fit models, nearly 100,000 in the U.S., for problems with a spring in the engines of these vehicles. Orlando personal injury attorney James O. According to CNNMoney, “The Japanese automaker said Wednesday it needs to replace a part called a lost-motion spring, which is a component in the engine valve train, in 2009 and 2010 models of the small car.”

The Associated Press reported that, “No accidents have been reported related to the problem, but at least 72 complaints were filed in Japan, and 29 abroad, Honda Motor Co. spokesman Tomohiro Okada said Thursday.”

“The lost motion springs, which are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use, may bend or break over time resulting in abnormal engine noise and potentially causing engine damage or stalling,” explains Honda. The company is holding the recall “to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda by mail. Notification to customers will begin in early March 2011.”
