Orlando Motorcyclist Dies in Seminole County Crash
On Wednesday night, a 53-year-old man from Orlando was riding on his motorcycle northbound on U.S. 17-92 when he was involved in an accident with another vehicle. Although the accident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, an official statement has been released that indicates that the motorcyclist, whose name was not released in the immediate aftermath of the incident, died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s report, while incomplete, does paint a fairly comprehensive picture of the events leading up to the accident as well of the accident itself. According to them, the accident took place shortly before 8:00 in the evening, just as the motorcyclist was attempting to turn from U.S. 17-92 on to Interstate 4. As the biker was in the process of making this routine turn, he interrupted the path of a pickup truck. The driver of the truck, an unnamed man from Stanford, remained at the scene of the crash after the accident, preventing himself from being the subject of a rigorous manhunt.
Emergency crews responded to the 9-1-1 call and arrived at the scene shortly after the initial accident occurred. When they arrived, the motorcyclist was still alive, although it was clear that his condition was highly unstable and that any attempt to save him was no guarantee. Despite the best efforts of the emergency response teams, the biker was declared dead shortly after he arrived at a nearby hospital (the name of the precise hospital to which the man was transported was not included in the Florida Highway Patrol’s report).
The driver of the pickup truck reportedly suffered from no injuries as a result of the crash. This extreme discrepancy between the experiences of the biker and the driver of the car is common in accidents that involve both a car and a motorcycle. While the driver of the car is surrounded by specialized technology to protect them from impacts, the biker only has the safety provided by their helmet (if they are wearing one), jacket, pants, and boots.
As of this writing, it is not believed that the driver of the pickup is facing any charges as a result of the crash.
