Florida Man Killed in Sugar Plant Accident
Sugar may be a sweet staple in every kitchen across America, but a fatal accident at a Florida sugar facility this month illuminated the dangers associated with producing the major cash crop. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, a Florida worker was killed in an accident at U.S. Sugar’s Clewiston facility on February 4th. The victim, Jeremy Scott Mullins, 25, was reportedly washing down sugar cane plants on the ground between the plants and a large piece of industrial equipment known as an “A frame.” According to a Hendry County Sheriff’s Office report, the A frame moved forward toward the plants and Mullins became trapped between the A frame and the ground.
