Single Car Crash in Apopka Kills Driver

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 27, 2019

A crash that resulted in at least one fatality in Apopka remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. At the time of this writing, several reports have emerged regarding the incident from both news agencies as well as the local and state law enforcement groups that responded to the reports of the accident. What we know is derived from these reports.

It was sometime around 5:15 in the evening on Monday, September 16th, when a Dodge van was traveling near the intersection of Plymouth Sorrento and Kelly Park Roads. It is not clear which of the roads the Dodge was actually on, and it is not clear if there was anyone within the car other than the driver. What we do know is that something happened within the car as it sped down the road to cause the driver to momentarily lose control of the vehicle.

Despite it being rush hour, it appears that only the one car was involved in the incident. Before the driver of the Dodge was able to regain control of the car, it shot off of the roadway and collided with a fence sitting along the shoulder. After striking the fence, the car went on to crash into a utility pole that lay close by. It is not clear just when the car caught fire, but the report indicated that it was sometime during the collision with the fence and the utility pole.

It is not known if the utility pole remained upright during the crash or if the force of the car striking it knocked it over. It is also not known if any homes or businesses lost power as a result of the crash.

The injuries that the driver of the Dodge sustained as a result of the collision with the pole and the fence were severe, and as soon as medical teams reached the area they began to treat the driver. Unfortunately, the severity of the injuries sustained by this person was too great for EMTs and paramedics to remedy, and there was not enough time to rush the driver to an emergency medical facility before they succumbed to their injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
