Pedestrian Run Over on East Osceola Parkway
This past Friday, September 2nd, a pedestrian was lying in the middle of East Osceola Parkway when they were run over and killed by a passing car. The incident, which is still under investigation by Florida State Troopers, occurred around 1:15 in the morning, near to where East Osceola Parkway intersects with Plumwood Circle.
According to a report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol, the car, a Dodge van, was being driven by a 62-year-old man from Kissimmee. With him in the car was a 29-year-old man, also from Kissimmee. No information has been released regarding the pedestrian’s name, age, place of residence, or gender.
All that is known at this point is that the 62-year-old driver was unable to avoid the individual lying in the center lane of the East Osceola Parkway, causing the prone person to be run over by the Dodge. The Florida Highway Patrol’s report states that the emergency teams were unable to revive the individual, and that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Neither the driver nor his 29-year-old passenger were injured during the event.
Right now, very little information exists regarding the actual circumstances surrounding the accident. No formal charges have been brought forward and it is not known whether the deceased individual has been properly identified and if their next of kin has been notified. As the investigation proceeds there will be more information about this case, and hopefully some closure for the individuals who will undoubtedly be affected by the death of a family member or loved one.
Circumstances such as this become rapidly mired in complexity. For the two men in the Dodge, there is possibly confusion regarding the accident. Why was there a person lying in the middle of the road? Was he injured or intoxicated? Was there a way for us to have seen and avoided him? For those the deceased leaves behind there is now a void as they question the series of events that led to the fatal encounter on a dark road in the transition between night and morning.
