One Dead, Two Injured in S.R. 50 Crash Near Tampa

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 2, 2019

A Tampa auto accident that took place on State Road 50, inside of Hernando County on Monday, March 25th, resulted in one fatality. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place close to 12:00 p.m. Shortly before this time, a 75-year-old resident of Venice was driving a Toyota Rav4 down the western lanes of State Road 50. Inside of the car with this individual was a 73-year-old from Venice and a 77-year-old from St. Petersburg. The report indicated that while the two passengers inside of the SUV were wearing their seatbelts, but the driver of the car was not.

At the same time as this SUV with its three occupants was making its way down State Road 50, another car, a 2008 Ford Edge, was approaching the SUV, traveling in the same direction. As the two vehicles neared the intersection between State Road 50 and U.S. 301 the Ford Edge began to either pass the Rav4 or to come up behind it. For reasons that were not made clear in the initial report, the driver of the Ford Edge then collided with the Rav4. It is not known if the collision was a rear-end crash or if the Edge sideswiped the Rav4. What is clear is that the force of the crash caused the driver of the Rav4 to lose control of the vehicle.

The SUV then left the roadway via a southeastern direction, traveled along the shoulder for an unknown distance, and then overturned. The driver of the Rav4, who, as mentioned above, was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown out of the vehicle as it began to roll. When paramedics and EMTs arrived at the scene they found that there was nothing that they could do for the badly injured driver and he was declared dead at the scene. The other two passengers in the Rav4 were also badly injured in the accident, but emergency response crews were able to transport them to Advent Health Dade City for treatment. At the time of this writing their condition is not known. The driver of the Ford Edge, a 26-year-old Dade City resident, was reportedly uninjured in the accident.
