Head-On Crash in Orange County Results in One Fatality
On the afternoon of Monday, September 9th, a 2016 Dodge was being driven down the western lane of Lake Pickett Road in the eastern area of Orange County. It is believed that the only person within the Dodge at the time of the auto accident was the driver, and as they approached a slower moving vehicle they decided to try and pass. This decision, while normally an acceptable one, was made in a designated “no-passing zone” area. Areas such as this are marked because of the perceived danger connected with attempts to pass other vehicles. The driver of the 2016 Dodge was either not aware of this factor or simply did not care, too interested as they were in passing the car in front of them to wonder about any possible dangers associated with the action.
At the same time that the driver of the Dodge was attempting to pass the vehicle ahead of them, a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction had also reached the same area. Before the driver of the pickup was able to change course and before the driver of the Dodge was able to merge back into the lane from which they’d come, the two cars collided.
The force of the head-on collision resulted in the front ends of both vehicles to suffer from heavy damage. The driver of the pickup as well as two passengers who were within the vehicle at the time of the collision all suffered from injuries deemed non-life-threatening and were transported from the area of the crash to Orlando Health for treatment. The driver of the Dodge, however, was not as fortunate. The injuries that they sustained as a result of the crash were severe, and there was nothing that the emergency response crews could do for them. This individual was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
It is not believed that any charges are currently pending against either the driver of the pickup or the driver of the car that the driver of the Dodge was attempting to pass. It is also not believed that the driver of the passing car was involved in the accident in any way.
An investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
