42-Year-Old Passenger Killed During Single-Car Crash in Pinellas County
According to public arrest records from the Clearwater Police Department, a 32-year-old man from Safety Harbor has been taken into custody and charged with vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, and driving with a suspended or revoked license for his alleged involvement in a deadly car accident that claimed the life of one individual and severely injured another Thursday evening along on Bayshore Boulevard.
Preliminary collision reports from the responding officers with the Clearwater Police Department indicate that it was close to 10:30 p.m. on October 7, 2021, when 32-year-old Winston B. Norman and his two passengers were traveling in a 2010 Volkswagen at a high rate of speed down Bayshore Boulevard near San Mateo Street in Clearwater. At some point during this dangerous joyride, the Safety Harbor resident lost control of the vehicle, careened across the roadway, and crashed into a set of trees lining the street.
Several Pinellas County and Clearwater emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene of the single-vehicle accident. Upon their arrival, they quickly discovered that a 42-year-old passenger within the Volkswagen had sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision and had already passed away. The vehicle’s other passenger, a 33-year-old unidentified male, was transported to Bayfront Health with undisclosed injuries where he was treated and released.
Authorities with the Clearwater Police Department did not mention whether or not the driver, 32-year-old Winston B. Norman, suffered any injuries from the fatal auto accident. He was, however, apprehended at the crash site on charges of DUI manslaughter, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and vehicular homicide. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail where he’ll remain until his day in court. Further inquiries into the suspect’s criminal history uncovered a prior DUI arrest in November 2020 to which he pled guilty in March of this year.
