Owner of Pit Bull That Bit Two Florida Boys Fights to Save Dog’s Life
The owner of Champ, a pit bull that attacked two boys last August, has hired an attorney to save the dog’s life. Orlando dog bite attorney James O. Cunningham has been following developments in the case very closely and is waiting for the 5th District Court of Appeal in Daytona Beach to make their decision in the case. Anthony Coleman of Pine Hills is Champ’s owner. He claims that Orange County officials unfairly sentenced his dog to be euthanized after it attacked and bit two boys that trespassed on his property last summer. Orange County Animal Services has been in custody of the animal since the incident while Coleman filed one petition after another to prevent authorities from executing the county court’s order to euthanize the animal.
Florida Supreme Court May Issue Ruling On Orlando’s Red Light Cameras
In a development that James O. Cunningham and other Orlando personal injury lawyers are monitoring very closely, Orlando city officials have announced that they may ask the Florida Supreme Court to determine the legality of their red light camera ticket program. A recent ruling by the 5th District Court of Appeal ruled that when the city began the program, Orlando was preempted from launching it at the time because that decision should be made at the state level. Despite the Court of Appeal’s ruling, Florida laws governing red light camera ticket programs have changed, allowing local governments to begin such programs and making the court’s ruling moot.
Two Killed in Florida Accident On State Road 60
A two-car accident on State Road 60 in south Osceola County has left two men dead and two people severely injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers say that the driver of a Toyota Matrix was traveling westbound on S.R. 60 when he lost control of his vehicle on rain-slickened roads and crossed the centerline into the eastbound lanes and into the path of a Chrysler driven by a Port St. Lucie man. After the Matrix collided with the Chrysler, the driver lost control, and it traveled onto the shoulder, where it overturned, ejecting a passenger.
Former Florida Police Officer Faces Charges After FHP Accident Investigation
A former Winter Springs police officer who was released from jail recently after posting bond still faces serious charges in connection with an accident that killed one person and seriously injured another. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) arrested the 34-year-old former police officer and charged him with vehicular homicide, reckless driving and racing on a highway after a six-month investigation. FHP troopers report that on January 12, 2012, the man lost control of his Mazda RX-7 shortly after pulling out of an auto repair shop on West Colonial. They say that after the man pulled into the westbound lanes of West Colonial, the man recklessly stepped on his gas pedal, causing his car to fishtail wildly.
Aggressive Driving Caused Fatal Florida Three-Car Accident On I-95
Florida Highway Patrol accident investigators released their preliminary report in connection with a recent three-car accident that killed a Sunrise man and closed a section of Interstate 95 for four hours. They say that the victim was a passenger in a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo driven by a 45-year-old Sunrise man. Troopers say that the Isuzu was traveling southbound on I-95 when the driver attempted to pass a 2002 Ford Mustang on the right shoulder of the road. When the driver attempted to pull back onto I-95 from the shoulder, he struck the front of the Mustang and lost control of his vehicle.
Orlando Man Struck By Tractor-Trailer in Fatal Pedestrian Accident On I-4
An Orlando man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer recently in yet another Central Florida pedestrian accident. The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. one recent morning on Interstate 4 near Polk Parkway. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say that the 26-year-old victim was standing in the eastbound lanes of I-4 when the 48-year-old driver of the semi saw him and tried to avoid striking the man. After being stuck by the semi, the man was thrown into the next lane, where he was struck by a Ford Fusion and a Ford Focus that were unable to avoid striking the victim. He was pronounced dead from his injuries at the accident scene. Troopers are still investigating the accident but say that charges are pending against the driver of the tractor-trailer.
2012 a Deadly Year for Florida Boating Accidents
So far this year, 28 people have been killed in Florida boating accidents, and safety officials are concerned that that number could climb significantly during the busy summer boating season. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) recently issued a report, which indicates that our state’s coastal waters are especially dangerous for boaters, particularly those who don’t wear a life jacket or are passengers on a boat piloted by someone who has not taken a boating safety course. Orlando boating accident attorney James O. Cunningham is alarmed at the numbers of people killed and injured in Florida boating accidents this year and urges everyone to wear a life vest and exercise extra caution on the water.
Manufacturer Recalls Frozen Meatballs Due to Food Borne Illness Risk
Orlando product liability lawyer James O. Cunningham would like to alert readers to an important product recall of frozen food that if ingested could cause serious health problems, especially for infants and the elderly. Buona Vita, Inc., a company based in Bridgeton, N.J., has announced that they are recalling nearly 73,000 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat food products due to the potential contamination of the products with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium associated with food borne illness.
2013 Ford Escape Models Recalled for Engine Fire Risk
Ford Motor Company recently issued an announcement that all owners of 2013 Ford Escape sports utility vehicles equipped with four-cylinder 1.6-liter motors should stop driving them immediately due to a fire risk in the engine compartment. Ford has acknowledged that a fuel line could split and leak, causing leaking fuel to come in contact with hot engine parts and ignite. Ford says the recall affects around 11,500 Escape models, mostly sold in Canada and the U.S. Many of the Escape models affected by the recall are still at dealerships, but around 4,800 have been sold to customers. Escape owners are advised to contact their local Ford dealership immediately so that loaner vehicles can be arranged and their Escapes can be picked up and taken to the dealership for repair.
Florida Kennel Worker’s Arm Amputated After Pit Bull Attack
A Panama City woman’s arm had to be amputated by surgeons after a pit bull attacked her while she was working at a veterinary clinic. Coworkers who rescued the woman say that they saw the dog violently shaking the victim’s arm as they walked into the kennel to help her. They had to kick and strike the dog to get it to release the woman and were able to lock it in its cage to protect her. The 43-year-old victim is being held in guarded condition in the intensive care unit of a nearby hospital. The owner of Parkway Animal Hospital where the attack occurred, told investigating officers that the dog had been in her kennel for two weeks prior to the attack and had not acted aggressively before attacking the woman. The animal is being held by Animal Control and is expected to be destroyed.
