Update on Fatality Involving Oyster-Hauling Truck in Osceola

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 7, 2017

A week ago, we reported on an accident that took place between a truck hauling oysters and a Lexus that resulted in the death of the Lexus driver, a 71-year-old man. When we wrote the article we mentioned that the truck and its driver had fled the scene and that neither had been recovered. Now, a week later, the Florida Highway Patrol has released an update to the story that indicates that the truck involved in the incident was recovered.

An officer with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department was filling up his tank at a service station along Canoe Creek Road when he spotted a truck that matched the description of the one involved with last Wednesday’s events. Although the officer was off duty, he still pursued the vehicle. The officer followed the truck to a small grocery store, where other officers arrived and began to inspect the vehicle. The driver of the truck was apprehended and the truck itself impounded.

The initial accident between the truck and the Lexus took place, as our initial reporting on the incident describes, last Wednesday night, around 8:00 in the evening. The truck was driving west on U.S. 192. At the intersection of U.S. 192 and Hickory Tree Road, the truck made a left to join the smaller street. In doing so, it drove right into the path of a black Lexus. The Lexus collided with the truck. The driver of the Lexus, and as-of-yet unnamed 71-year-old man, was killed as a result of the incident. Witnesses to the scene say that the truck did not stop and drove away, leaving the deadly accident behind.

It took a week and a day, but the truck has now been recovered. It is not yet certain whether or not the driver who was apprehended along with the vehicle was the individual behind the truck’s wheel during the time of the initial crash, but all of that will be discovered as the police interrogate the driver and discover just what happened on that day that led to a man’s untimely death.
