Semi-truck Accident Leaves One Dead in Miami
A vehicle accident in Southwest Miami-Dade involving a semi-truck and a car has left one dead. The accident happened in the early morning on US Highway 1 near Southwest 146th Street in Palmetto Bay. According to eye witness reports, the car was traveling north when it collided with the truck.
Emergency first responders attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to Jackson South Trauma Center, where their condition is unknown. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
In this case, it would seem the truck driver made a mistake. The ‘golden rule’ of car accidents is, no matter what, always seek medical attention. Even if you do not think you have been injured, always go to the hospital or your primary care provider for a checkup. With car accidents, more often than not an injury will not manifest itself until days – or even weeks – after the accident. By going to a doctor immediately, he or she may be able to identify internal injuries that you are unaware of. At the very least, you will have an official medical record that notes a) you were in a car accident and that b) you were not displaying any signs of injury.
Why is this important? Let’s say you are in an accident but, since you don’t seem injured, decide not to go to the doctor. Then, three or four weeks later you start noticing a sharp pain in your neck and upper back. Knowing that it is the result of the accident, you decide to file a lawsuit to seek compensation for your injuries. However, your claim is denied because the other side claims the injuries were not the result of the accident but something you’ve been suffering from for some time – after all, you didn’t even seek treatment for them until weeks after the accident. If, however, you did go to the doctor immediately after the accident you would have an official record disputing this claim.
