Fiery Orange County Crash Delays Traffic on I-4

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 18, 2015

On Wednesday morning, February 18, 2015, traffic was delayed for several hours on Interstate 4 in Orange County, due to vehicle crash that happened the night before. Late Tuesday just before midnight, a semi-truck was in a single-vehicle wreck that occurred by the Par Street exit ramp on the heavily traveled I-4 near Winter Park, Florida.

Forty-Three year old Jerome Adams, the driver and a Georgia resident, lost control of the semi-truck and slammed into the concrete guard rail. According to witnesses, the semi-truck burst into flames after the vehicle crashed. Thankfully, the driver was able to escape the vehicle, but not without sustaining a bit of bodily harm. Orange County Fire Rescue reports that the driver did sustain some injuries, but the extent of those injuries is unclear at this time. Mr. Adams was able to walk away from the wreckage.

The semi-truck was the only vehicle involved in the actual crash, but it is unknown if another vehicle may have caused the accident and left the scene. As of Feb. 18, the Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash, and driver-error has not been ruled out. Weather may have been partially to blame, as it was raining that night and the roads could have been slick.

The Fire Rescue team worked to extinguish the flames coming from the semi, and no bystanders were injured. The fire was fueled by the large amount of furniture and plastic that was being hauled in the semi. Officials had to close the road-way for several hours following the crash because of the fire, as well as due to an extensive amount of debris that was littering the Interstate. This caused some delays for morning commuters, but was cleared up as quickly as possible.

At 5 a.m., the charred semi was removed by a tow-truck and traffic was able to resume. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating this crash, and will release more information as it comes available.
