Fatal Pedestrian vs CSX Train Collision in Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 22, 2018

It was shortly before 11:00 in the morning on February 12th when an Orlando resident who was walking along either South Orange Avenue or 4th Street in Orlando attempted to cross the tracks for the CSX train that is located at the intersection of these two roads. As the man was crossing the tracks, a CSX train came through the intersection, hitting the man and critically injuring him. The Florida Highway Patrol, one of the investigating parties, has issued a statement on the incident that goes over the most verifiable details while concluding with the admission that the reasons behind the crash are still under investigation.

What we do know so far is that the man, an Orlando resident, was struck by the right side of the train. We do not know why he decided to cross the tracks at this particular time or if, perhaps, the entire incident was intentional on the man’s part. It is also entirely possible that for reasons that are not currently known the man was unable to see or hear the train and was taken completely by surprise when the collision took place.

Either the driver of the train or another witness called 9-1-1 right after the crash occurred, and paramedics, police, and other first responders arrived at the scene only minutes after the crash. The injured man was carefully placed inside of an ambulance and rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he received top quality care for his injuries. Unfortunately, the severity of the wounds he suffered after being struck by the train precluded any chance of his recovery, and he was declared dead a short while after he was admitted to the hospital.

The report indicated that this Orange County crash only included only the train and the pedestrian. No one aboard the train was injured as a result of the collision, although it is likely that the train was delayed for several hours while the initial investigation was launched. The report did not include how many people were inside of the train at the time of the crash.

More details will emerge around the crash as the investigation progresses.
