Palm Coast Dump Truck Accident Fatally Injures Two People
A construction worker who pulled over to attempt to help a motorist in trouble accidentally backed over two people Thursday night as he was maneuvering his dump truck at the scene. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 29-year-old male tried to drive his pickup truck through a construction zone in Palm Coast when he became stuck in some soft mud. The driver of the pickup truck enlisted the help a female friend and her boyfriend who also arrived on the scene. The trio then flagged down the construction worker in the dump truck.
Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Will Be Construction-Free in Florida
In an effort to improve highway safety over the long holiday weekend, the Florida Department of Transportation District Three office will halt lane closing on state roads and interstates through Sunday. Although existing work zones will remain in effect, the office has pledged no additional lane closures through the weekend. Motorists are reminded to continue to be vigilant around work zones for construction personnel and to observe slower speed limits in the area.
Florida Man Electrocuted Doing Work on Boat Dock for HGTV Dream Home Giveaway
Authorities say a man was electrocuted while working on a boat dock at the site of the 2016 HGTV Dream Home giveaway in central Florida last week. The man has been identified as James Sands, 37, of Melbourne, FL. He fell off the dock and into the Indian River Lagoon after receiving a powerful shock from the electrical equipment he was using to improve the boat dock.
Miami Beach Condo Tower Explosion Injures Several
An explosion in a top floor boiler room at the oceanside condominium rocked the surrounded neighbors last Friday, injuring several people. Three construction workers on the new Sunny Isles Beach Condominium complex were either inside or in close proximity to the boiler room when the explosion occurred and sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the blast. Witnesses at the nearby Chateau Beach residences were also injured by falling debris, though none were serious. Many people in the area heard the blast and initially thought it may have been terrorism, but officials have confirmed that it was an accident.
