Pest Control Workers Badly Shocked in Daytona Beach
At the beginning of the work day on Friday, employees from Pioneer Pest Services, a termite and pest control company, were working to erect a special type of tent used to repel and eradicate termites over the roof of SOS Elite Marine, a boat company located at 701 South Beach Street. At around 7:10 in the morning, one of the employees from Pioneer Pest Services, an unnamed 28-year-old, accidentally made contact with a power line above the roof.
The Daytona Beach Fire Officials have issued a report stating that the man was immediately rushed to Halifax Hospital to undergo evaluation, although it is believed that his injuries are not life-threatening. Nearly half-an-hour later, a 23-year-old man (also unnamed) from the same company, and who was also working on the roof of Elite Marine, made the same mistake as his co-worker and also walked into the power lines. The Daytona Fire Officials again responded. It was apparent that the injuries experienced by the second worker were far more severe than that of the first, and he was subsequently airlifted away from the location and flown to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.
More is known about the extent of the damage suffered by the second man, and the report from the Daytona Fire Department describes how the 23-year-old exhibits an entry wound along his arm with a following exit wound on his foot. He also sustained third degree burns due to the accident.
As of this moment, the two accidents are both undergoing an extensive investigation spearheaded by The Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA will work to discover whether or not the accidents were the result of negligence or carelessness on the parts of any individuals, with a focus on the work conditions at Pioneer as well as the degree to which the two employees were informed about the eminent risk of shock and electrocution posed by their presence upon the roof. No charges have been filed as yet, and there have been no instances of suspicion cast on anyone potentially involved. More updates will be released pertaining to this story as they become available.
