Orange County Day Care Destroyed by Morning Fire

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on November 24, 2017

A day care in Orange County was severely damaged in a fire that took place early on Wednesday morning, according to a report from fire officials with the Apopka Fire Department. The official report as it currently stands delivers scant information, however it seems that the fire began at some point either very late on Tuesday night or early on Wednesday morning, a factor which meant that at the time of the blaze no one was in the building.

Members of the Apopka Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Rescue rushed to the burning building as soon as they became aware of the fire. It is not known whether or not a 9-1-1 call was placed or if they were notified after sensors in the building went off indicating that a fire had started. Either way, fire teams raced to the designated location, a daycare called the Learning Ladder.

When they arrived, members of the fire departments found the building to be completely engulfed in viscous flames. Hoses were deployed and the fire eventually fully suppressed, but not before the flames consumed the entirety of the day care center. The official report states that the building will now likely be condemned due to the massive destructive scale of the fire.

A preliminary investigation into the causes of the blaze has begun, with investigators paying especially close attention to the front area of the day care. The area in question contained most of the businesses offices as well as many electrical appliances used by the day care’s administrative staff. Investigators have reason to believe that the flames began due to an electrical problem, although it is not known if this means a problem with the wiring in the building or in some specific appliance that was running well after the building had been emptied of all personnel.

Up to 29 children were able to be accommodated by the day care’s facilities, and the destruction of the Learning Ladder will likely force many Apopka parents into a sudden search for a new center in which to deposit their children for the day.
