Family Narrowly Escapes Death in Orlando House Fire

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on March 27, 2017

On Monday morning, an Orlando family narrowly escaped death when one of their young children woke up suddenly during the night and discovered the house was on fire. The circumstances surrounding this event are not clearly understood as of yet, but Orlando fire officials have issued a statement that discusses the events as they are currently understood.

According to their report, the child woke up due to a loud popping sound from outside the house. When the child investigated to discover what caused the sound, they instead found flames leaping throughout the home. The child immediately went to wake their family, a quick thinking move that likely saved the lives of the three children and two adults that lived in the house.

Fire officials have indicated that one of the major dangers in this circumstance, and a fact that could easily have led to five corpses being pulled from the charred remains of the home, was the absence of smoke detectors in the home. While it is state law that all homes have smoke detectors, many are not equipped with them. Reasons for this range from a landlord simply not installing the required devices, to a home being sold without smoke detectors, to a homeowner neglecting to install the necessary equipment needed to potentially save lives. In the fire official’s statement, they indicated that people without smoke detectors should contact the fire department. The fire department is one of the primary service locations for smoke detectors, and they will come to your home to install them for you.

In this case, the fire marshal is still investigating the scene in order to discover just what happened to cause the blaze. As of yet, there is no indication that any answer has been found. The family’s van, which was parked next to the home, was also destroyed from the fire, although there is no indication as of yet that the van was the reason behind the violent and life-threatening conflagration. As more details become available, the fire marshal will update the known facts so that any who are interested can learn exactly what took place on Monday.
