Orange County Family Displaced by Violent Fire
A family in Orange County barely escaped with their lives from a ferocious fire that consumed their home and damaged two other homes nearby on Wednesday, March 14th. It is not clear if the fire happened during the night or at some point during the day, but we do know that the flames were first noticed by one of the family’s neighbors. According to this individual, he noticed that flames were beginning to burst from the home’s windows and that the roof of the house was shrouded in thick billows of smoke that were starting to escape from the eaves.
Acting as quickly as possible, this neighbor called 9-1-1 to report the fire before rushing to assist the family inside. Fortunately, all of the home’s inhabitants (which included a woman and her baby as well as the family dog) were able to be quickly located and rescued.
Once the two people and the dog were safely removed from the building, the fire rescue teams that had arrived at the point began to try and remove as many objects from the building as possible. One of the two cars from the driveway was able to be pulled away from the fast deteriorating structure, but then, according to the news reports, the fire’s intensity reached news highs and the Orange County Fire Rescue teams ordered that everyone stand back while they battled the flames.
The wind in the area at this time began to pick up, and the firefighters found themselves frantically trying to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings nearby. Their tireless efforts paid off, and at the end of the day they were able to ensure that the flames stayed almost exclusively to the original home. Two of the neighbor’s houses were affected by the flames, but the damage was not nearly as extensive as that suffered by the home where the fire began.
The Red Cross arrived to help the displaced mother and child, and it is believed that at this time they are able to find shelter from their family and friends in the area.
An investigation is currently underway as authorities attempt to discover just what happened to cause this violent and unexpected fire.
