Car Crashes Into Orlando Home, Pins Her Against Table

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 26, 2017

A week ago, on Tuesday, a 67-year-old woman was in her home at 7381 High Lake Drive. It was close to 9:00 in the morning, a usually quiet time for this particular stretch of High Lake Drive which is located in between North Hiawassee Road and North Apopka Vineland Road and close to Lake Gem Elementary School. The woman, who has not been named, was in her kitchen, sitting at a table, when a car suddenly drove through the kitchen wall.

According to the official report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the car, a 2008 Hyundai, was being driven by Searles, a 61-year-old Orlando Resident. An initial investigation into the event uncovered that Searles was driving her Hyundai down High Lake Drive when she approached a curve. For reasons that are currently not known, Searles was unable to navigate the curve adequately and her car shot off of the road and into the house located at 7381 High Lake Drive.

The unnamed homeowner was struck by the vehicle after it passed through the wall and then sandwiched between the car and her kitchen table. She remained like this until first responders were able to access the area and pull her from the rubble of her kitchen. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol told reporters that the woman was then rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center. It is believed that she suffered from fairly severe injuries as a result of the unexpected crash. The current condition of the woman is not known, although additional updates to this story are expected to emerge from spokespeople for the Florida Highway Patrol.

Searles, the FHP statement continued, was given a ticket with a citation for careless driving. Troopers also indicated that she will be asked to undergo a re-evaluation for her driving ability. Depending on the results of this evaluation, Searles may have her license suspended or revoked.

Additional charges have not yet been brought against Searles, although it is possible that the injured homeowner or her family will look into the matter. At the time of this writing no other information was provided as to the causes or aftermath of this terrible incident.
