Woman Pushing Shopping Cart Across Orlando Street Struck and Killed by Car

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on March 26, 2018

Police with the Florida Highway Patrol working in Orange County released a report on an incident that took place this on Monday, March 26th, that resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman. The report failed to specify if any charges are being issued as a result of the incident, and it seems possible that the FHP are still in the process of conducting an investigation. If so, then it is possible that charges will be filed at some future date, pending the investigations results.

What we do know is that a 61-year-old man from Orlando was behind the wheel of his 2017 Dodge van as he made his way down either West Oak Ridge Road or Texas Avenue at close to 8:30 in the evening. While he was traveling, a 60-year-old woman who was pushing a shopping cart across the road traveled in front of the van. The man then struck the woman with his car, inflicting critical injuries as he did so.

9-1-1 was subsequently called by either the man or a witness to the incident, and the Florida Highway Patrol as well as other medical teams from Orange County arrived shortly afterwards. The woman was still alive when the teams reached her, and she was then lifted into an ambulance and rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center. The report indicated that she died some time after arriving at the medical facility.

The driver of the car was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, and it is possible that this helped prevent him from suffering from injuries as a result of the crash.

While the investigation unfolds, there are a few things that we do know. For instance, we know that the police have ruled out the presence of alcohol or other inebriating substances as a possible cause for the crash. This means that both the driver and the pedestrian are believed to have been in clear states of mind when the incident occurred.

No charges have yet been leveled at the driver of the Dodge, and it is not immediately clear if any charges will emerge.
