Orlando Resident Killed in Pedestrian Accident
An Orlando man was fatally injured Monday evening in an Orange County pedestrian accident when he stepped out into oncoming traffic and was struck by a sports utility vehicle.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Monday night, 42-year old Jesus M. Palacios, who was travelling by foot westbound on Oak Ridge Road near Defiance Avenue, was hit and killed as he attempted to cross the street. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the accident, but Palacios died at the scene. The driver of the Jeep SUV, 23-year old Luis P.Rodriguez, an Orlando native, was unharmed.
Authorities have also stated that Rodriguez was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident, and they do not believe alcohol was a participating factor. This accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
“Alert Today Alive Tomorrow”
Florida is far more “pedestrian-friendly” than many other states, implementing pedestrian protection programs and laws to ensure the safety of its walking citizens. One of which is the “Alert Today Alive Tomorrow” campaign, set into action four years ago and incorporated into the top 10 counties in Florida with the highest number of bicyclist and pedestrian fatalities. The primary focus of this program is to keep Floridians informed and aware of pedestrian and bicycle safety via social media, television, radio, and various other platforms. Their motto is: “Safety Doesn’t Happen by Accident”, which is a reminder to everyone on the road to follow the rules and pay attention at all times.
Exceptional Legal Representation
Dealing with pedestrian accidents and injuries can be a painful and difficult time for victims and their loved ones. Overwhelming hospital fees, medical bills, and loss of time from work can become challenging for everyone involved.
As deadly as pedestrian accidents can be, not all of them are fatal. Different types of injuries can include:
- Broken Bones
- Concussions
- Amputations
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
- …and so on.
For forty years now, the Law Offices of James O. Cunningham, P.A. has been fighting for the rights of injured victims, ensuring they receive the compassion and compensation that they deserve.
