Orlando Driver Loses Control, Crashes into Pedestrians
Three school children waiting for the bus never made it to school Monday morning. While waiting at the Orlando area bus stop, all three were hit by a car driven by a 17-year-old female.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident happened around 9:00 am at Osprey Lake Circle and Grey Owl Run, just north of Walker Elementary School, which is located on Snow Hill Road. The teenage driver, who had her 8-year-old sister in the car with her, lost control of the 2015 BMW that she was driving. This caused her to strike a mailbox and ricocheting into the three school children. Police say the driver initially left the scene without stopping. After dropping her sister off at school, however, the driver did return to the scene of the accident – hitting a gate in the process.
The victims included two 12-year-old girls and one 14-year-old girl. One of the 12-year-olds was transported to Orlando’s Arnold Palmer Hospital for treatment for bruising and cuts. She is expected to be ok. Police say the other two children were not seriously injured. The driver and her passenger were not injured. Although the investigation continues, police do not believe that alcohol played a role in the car accident.
In the case at hand, all three school children will be able to seek compensation for their injuries by filing a Florida personal injury lawsuit against the driver (and possibly the owner of the BMW she was driving). Even though the injuries seem minor, all the victims should seek medical attention. This is because often times car accident injuries will not show up until days – even weeks – later. This is particularly true for children, as even minor injuries could lead to significant complications down the road. A doctor will be able to provide a full examination and make treatment recommendations accordingly.
