Fatal Collision Between SUV and Pedestrian in Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 18, 2018

On Sunday, a little over a week ago, a collision occurred in Orlando that left one individual dead. The details released from the Orlando Police Department do not give a full picture of the events leading up to the collision between an SUV and a pedestrian, and they also give very little in the way of explanation of what happened during and after the collision. What facts were released give us the general idea of the crash, and it is therefore worthwhile to relate them here.

The report indicates that the incident happened at close to 10:30 in the evening, at the intersection of Semoran Boulevard and Lake Underhill Road. A person on foot, believe to be a man, had reached the intersection and was then attempting to cross the street. It is not known whether or not this man was using a crosswalk when they decided to make their way through the busy intersection, and, if he was using a crosswalk, it is not known if he had a “walk” signal telling him to go or if this intersection even possessed traffic lights.

At the same time as this unnamed person was crossing the street, an SUV being driving by another unnamed person was coming down the road and approaching the same intersection. It is not clear whether or not the driver of the SUV had time to spot the pedestrian or if the appearance of the person on the road was completely unexpected, but in the following moments the SUV’s driver was unable to swerve around the man and the car struck him.

The driver of the SUV immediately stopped the car and remained at the scene of the accident while paramedics and members of various Orlando emergency response crews rushed to the location. Unfortunately, the injuries suffered by the pedestrian in the crash were too severe for medical treatment to fix and he was declared dead at the scene. The SUV’s driver cooperated with authorities on every aspect of their initial investigation. Although it is not clear how or why the police came to this decision, no charges have been filed against the SUV’s driver.

It is not known whether or not this incident is still under investigation.
