61-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 22, 2018

An incident that took place late on Thursday night in Orange County resulted in the death of a 61-year-old Orlando pedestrian. According to a report from the Orlando Police Department, the pedestrian, a woman who was identified shortly after the collision took place, was on foot and walking along West Oak Ridge Road at close to 11:30 in the evening when she neared the intersection of West Oak Ridge and Defiance Avenue.

At this same time, a 2009 Saturn being driven by a 62-year-old man from Orlando was also nearing the same intersection. The report did not indicate which side of the road either the Saturn or the woman were walking along when the accident involving the two of them occurred, but it does suggest that the woman either stepped off of the sidewalk or simply walked into the road at the same time as the car was passing by. Left out of the Orlando Police Department’s report on the incident is whether or not the woman was trying to cross the street and, if so, if she was using a crosswalk at the time when the collision took place.

It is not clear if the driver of the car saw or did not see the woman in the moments before the collision took place, but we do know that the car struck the woman before she was able to return to the sidewalk or the car’s driver able to avoid her. In the following moments, either the driver of the Saturn or a witness to the crash called 9-1-1, and paramedics and police arrived at the scene to try and assess the damage and administer emergency care to the critically injured woman.

Paramedics were able to place her inside of an ambulance, after which they took her to the Orlando Regional Medical center for emergency medical care. Unfortunately, the extent of her injuries was beyond the scope of even the doctors at the hospital and she was declared dead shortly after arriving at the medical facility.

The driver of the Saturn, who was incidentally not wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the incident. It is not clear if any charges are currently pending against him.
